Charles Leclerc rejects Lewis Hamilton rift talk: “Who is forcing that narrative?”

At Monza, two red Ferraris nearly touched wheels shortly after the start. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, starting from the second row on Ferrari’s home outright, were soon side by side at the Rettifilo chicane. Hamilton had better momentum and moved to the inside, but Leclerc did not give enough room. By Turn 2, Hamilton was squeezed onto the gravel and lost several places. A lap later, Leclerc retired from the race. When asked about the incident, Leclerc pushed back: “I don’t really know who is forcing the narrative that we are one against the other. Honestly, from Zandvoort there was already too much talk.” The Dutch GP had already created tension when Leclerc ignored team strategy requests and delayed his pit stop, with Hamilton running behind him. Still, Leclerc admitted he went too far in front of the tifosi. He said he tried to take the tightest possible line into Turn 2, but it was not enough, and doing it in Monza was not good. From a technical standpoint, Leclerc was within F1 racing rules because a driver passing on the outside must be ahead at the apex to be entitled to space. Hamilton had not reached that point. But being legal and being sensible as a teammate are two different things. The bigger issue for Ferrari is not a single corner battle. It is whether two star drivers can trust each other for the rest of a championship fight. Leclerc and Hamilton are both experienced enough to move forward, but the team must step in before the narrative grows bigger than the reality.
